Lorna Laidlaw will not be returning to her role as Aggie Bailey on Coronation Street, a new report has claimed.
The 61-year-old joined the soap in June 2019 as the matriarch of the Baileys - the soap's first black family - and quickly became a fan-favourite character.
However, for the last year much mystery has surrounded Laidlaw's future after Aggie made a sudden off-screen exit last summer, with the character supposedly going to Birmingham to care for a sick relative.
Although she has been mentioned frequently, Aggie has not returned to the street - and after husband Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) relapsed with his gambling addiction last Christmas, she decided to end their marriage, again in an off-screen development.
According to The Sun, Laidlaw has recently been filming the second series of Channel 5's The Good Ship Murder, which also features Coronation Street's Shayne Ward, Catherine Tyldesley and Claire Sweeney.
"Lorna is a hugely talented actress and it's a great gig to land," a source said.
"The show films in beautiful Malta and the cast and crew are a close knit group so it's a really great atmosphere to work in."
Although Corrie has yet to officially comment on the situation, the newspaper claims that "the actress has indeed left and there are no plans for her to return".
The news means that as things stand, Aggie will be absent for the wedding of her daughter Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) to killer Joel (Calum Lill) at the end of September. body check tags ::
