Kayley Woollacott's first impression of Lalor was that she was viewing a horse which was "very leggy and gormless", and the latter description can not exactly be viewed as a positive for a horse who was unknowingly carrying a certain level of expectation. However, the gelding has progressed into one of the star attractions on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, with Woollacott having developed Lalor into a horse who is now regarded as one of the favourites for the Arkle Challenge Trophy after taking over the licence of husband Richard, who passed away last year.

When considering your horse racing bets for Cheltenham, there are some races which are more wide open than others but Lalor is offering form and a back story which punters can invest in ahead of the second race on Tuesday. Lalor's debut came as recently as November and the seven-year old prevailed from a field of five at odds of 11/2 to win at Cheltenham, and there are many who feel that a repeat performance will occur this week.

Lalor - who will be ridden by Richard Johnson - is viewed as one of four main contenders to prevail in Tuesday's 2.10pm race, with Glen Forsa also making a successful switch to fences in recent months. Hardline and Duc Des Genievres are also expected to be in the running, while you cannot rule out Kalashnikov who narrowly missed out in last year's Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
