Grand National-winning jockey Jason Maguire has been ruled out of the Cheltenham Festival after suffering multiple injuries in a fall at Stratford on Monday.
The 33-year-old was unseated aboard the John Quinn-trained Scots Gaelic in a two-mile handicap hurdle, and was then kicked in the stomach by another horse.
He was airlifted to University Hospital Coventry, where X-rays revealed that he had fractured his sternum and sustained bleeding on his liver, with a friend later revealing that he will miss the annual showpiece.
Maguire, who had a Cheltenham Festival victory on Galileo in 2002, was scheduled to have three rides on the opening day of the Festival on Tuesday, including Un Ace in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
The Irishman won the 2011 Grand National on 14-1 shot Ballabriggs.
