Jockey Simone Montgomerie has died in hospital following a fall at the Darwin Cup in Australia.
Montgomerie, who was riding Riahgrand in Race Six of the meeting, was knocked off in the straight and was swiftly treated by paramedics on the track.
She was placed in critical condition after being rushed to the Royal Darwin Hospital, where she later died.
A press conference confirmed the news, which caused organisers to abandon the Darwin Cup race meeting with the well-being of other jockeys in mind.
