Warrington Wolves hooker Michael Monaghan confirms that he will retire from playing at the end of the season.

Warrington Wolves hooker Michael Monaghan has confirmed that he will retire from playing rugby league at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old Australian joined the Wolves in 2008 before going on to win three Challenge Cups with the team.

Monaghan, who has also been a runner-up in two Grand Finals, hopes to go into coaching when he hangs up his boots this summer.

"It's all gone better than I could have hoped for or expected," he told the club's official website. "It's been a privilege playing here for seven years, winning Challenge Cups and playing in Grand Finals.

"I'm retiring from playing at the end of the season, but I am looking forward to moving on in the game, hopefully into a coaching role, whether that's here or elsewhere."

Monaghan began his career with Canberra before joining Manly in 2003.
