After the elation of achieving their best start to an Olympic Games for 112 years, Great Britain suffered two crushing injury blows within a matter of hours on Thursday.

Teenage skateboarding sensation Sky Brown was just 13 years old when she won bronze in the women's park event at the Tokyo 2020 Games, thereby becoming GB's youngest-ever Games medallist.

Now 16, Brown had already had to battle back from a severe knee injury - which she sustained on a film shoot - to hit peak condition for the Paris Olympics, where the women's park event is set to take place on August 6.

However, a report from BBC Sport now claims that the teenager suffered a full dislocation of her shoulder on Sunday, one day before she arrived in the French capital, and she is now in the care of the team doctors.

In addition, another medal hope in Jake Wightman was revealed to have picked up a hamstring injury, as he sought to make up for missing the 2024 British Championships due to a calf problem.

Will Brown, Wightman compete at the Olympics?

The 30-year-old memorably took the 1500m title at the World Championships in 2022, and he was selected to run the 800m for Great Britain in Paris, where the heats take place on August 7, three days before the final.

However, Team GB have now confirmed that Wightman's hamstring problem have scuppered his hopes of finally winning an Olympic medal, a devastating blow for an experienced competitor.

In his place, Elliot Giles will compete at his third Olympic Games after running the 800m at the 2016 and 2020 editions, although he failed to reach the final on both occasions.

In contrast, skateboard bronze medallist Brown is supposedly still keeping her fingers crossed that she will be able to compete in Paris, despite the severe nature of her shoulder injury.

Since placing third in Tokyo, Brown became the women's park world champion in 2023, in addition to winning X Games gold in 2021 and 2022. body check tags ::
