Siobhan-Marie O'Connor believes that learning from her previous disappointments has helped her secure her first Commonwealth gold medal in Glasgow.
The 18-year-old broke the Games record in tonight's 200m individual medley to secure top spot on the podium in 2:08.01.
"This is an amazing moment, but there's a lot of times where it's just such a hard struggle," O'Connor told reporters. "There's so many disappointments - it's not just about swimming well, it's about getting through those disappointments and learning from it.
"I've had a lot of tough learning curves and I'm sure there's still more to come, but my training has been so good recently."
O'Connor has also won three silver medals and one bronze in Glasgow so far.
