Adam Peaty: 'Being competitive gives British swimmers a winning formula'

Adam Peaty tells Sports Mole that a competitive nature between himself and his British swimmers results in a "winning formula".

Team England's Adam Peaty has insisted that the competitive nature between himself and his fellow British swimmers helps improve their form in the pool.

The 19-year-old set a new Commonwealth Games record by qualifying for the 100m breaststroke semi-finals in 59.47s this morning.

Last night, Peaty finished just 0.15 seconds outside of the medals in the 200m breaststroke final, which was won by Ross Murdoch, whose Scottish teammate Michael Jamieson claimed silver.

Yesterday, Jamieson told Sports Mole that both Peaty and Murdoch are moving the 100m and 200m breaststroke forward.

In response to the Olympic silver medallist's claims, Peaty told SM: "It's highly competitive - we push each other to new limits really, and it's a good kind of relationship. We're good friends, but at the same time we're fierce competitors and that's what you need for a winning formula."

Peaty will also compete in the 50m breaststroke and the 4x100m medley relay.
