Team England's Aimee Willmott admits that she was especially happy with her silver medal in the 200m butterfly at the Commonwealth Games because it was a surprise success.

Team England's Aimee Willmott has revealed that she was delighted with her silver medal in the women's 200m butterfly more than any other success she had at the Commonwealth Games.

The 21-year-old secured three medals at the Games, two of which were individual triumphs as Willmott won silver in the 200m butterfly and the 400m individual medley.

However, she has admitted that her success in the butterfly event was more special because of the surprise element of her triumph.

Willmott told ITV Sport: "It's still just sinking in at the moment. When you hit the wall and realise you've come away with a medal and you stand on the podium and everyone's cheering for you, you know that you've done it for yourself but so many people are happy for you as well.

"I probably enjoyed the 200m butterfly race the most because at the start of the season if someone would have told me that I would have won a silver medal in a 200m butterfly I probably would have laughed.

"Over the year I've worked very hard on that stroke to try and improve it for the start of my 400m medley and to come away with a medal in that event was really nice and special."

Team England won 28 medals in the pool at the Games.
