Rebecca Adlington has won gold in the 800m freestyle at the World Championships in Shanghai.
Lotte Friis had led from the opening buzzer but Adlington stayed close to the Dane, and a determined final 100m from the Brit helped her claim her first world title.
"Lottie is always such a strong competitor that I knew it was going to be a battle," the 22-year-old told BBC Sport.
"I'm so glad I've added to my collection. She is just an absolute competitor and always there battling."
Adlington's medal is her second at the Championships after claiming silver in the 400m freestyle, and Britain's third overall with Ellen Gandy winning silver in the 200m butterfly.
