Michael Jamieson eyes Ross Murdoch revenge

Michael Jamieson says that he wants to make amends for his Commonwealth Games defeat to Ross Murdoch by beating his fellow Scot to the gold today.

Scottish swimmer Michael Jamieson is determined to avenge his Commonwealth Games defeat to Ross Murdoch by beating his compatriot to the gold in today's 100m contest.

Murdoch, 20, pipped the pre-race favourite to the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke on day one of the Games on Thursday.

The Olympic silver medallist lost to the youngster once again in the 100m heat this afternoon but, with the final yet to come, Jamieson says that he is rapidly growing tired of second-placed podium finishes.

"I just need to try and enjoy the rest of the Games and soak up the atmosphere," he told BBC Sport. "Ross is on fire after last night so he'll be dangerous for the final.

"I know how privileged a position this is to be racing for my country but I'm an athlete and I want to win. I have a growing collection of silver medals and I don't train to finish second."

Earlier today, swimming legend Mark Foster claimed that Murdoch had now usurped Jamieson as Scotland's poster boy for the Games.
