Michael Jamieson admits that it will take time for him to overcome his feeling of "hurt" after failing to win gold in the 200m breaststroke final at Glasgow 2014.

Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson has admitted that missing out on a gold medal in the 200m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games in his hometown of Glasgow will "hurt for a while".

The 25-year-old was heavily tipped to earn the top spot on the podium after being made the poster boy for Team Scotland ahead of the Games.

However, Jamieson had to settle for silver as his 20-year-old teammate Ross Murdoch edged in front of him at the Tollcross pool to win gold.

"I think this one is going to hurt for a while," Jamieson told reporters. "This is the one that I was aiming for. Maybe [the emotion of being a home Games] was why it didn't go well.

"Probably struggling with too much emotion, just getting too uptight the last few days and kind of forgetting that it's just another race. It is the biggest race of my life, but I think if I was going to swim well tonight, I had to get over that and stay as relaxed as possible."

England's Andrew Willis completed the podium by winning bronze.
