Ross Murdoch admits that going up against his fellow Team Scotland star Michael Jamieson in the 200m breaststroke final was "nerve-wracking".

New Commonwealth champion Ross Murdoch has admitted that he felt slightly daunted going up against his Scotland teammate Michael Jamieson in the 200m breaststroke final this evening.

The 20-year-old defied the odds by beating favourite Jamieson to the gold in a Commonwealth record time of 2:07.30.

"It's kind of hard when you're stood up against someone as prestigious as him," Murdoch told reporters. "He's been there, he knows what it's like to perform at that level and I actually haven't been there. To stand up against a more experienced man was nerve-wracking for me, but it was all about holding my nerve tonight and I did.

"It's quite good just to go unnoticed, but I could go the other way. I like to be the underdog, for people not to expect much of me, but I don't really look at the press or look at what anyone is saying. I just focus on the process and doing my own thing."

England's Andrew Willis completed the podium by collecting bronze at Tollcross.
