Team GB's Holly Hibbott has revealed that Abbie Wood's success earlier today inspired her to go on and win a gold medal of her own at the European Games.
Hibbott recorded a time of 8:39.02 in the 800m freestyle to clinch top spot on the podium at the Baku Aquatics Centre, playing her part in a successful day for Team GB that also saw Wood and the men's 4x100m freestyle relay team claim gold.
The 15-year-old admitted that she was not expecting to come away with the top prize, but believes that there is more to come from her in the future.
"I didn't really expect [to win gold], but I was hoping. It feels great, I was really excited to race so I'm happy with the result," she told Sports Mole.
"I knew I was fit and I've trained hard - there's probably more to come after training a bit more.
"I saw Abbie earlier and she did really well. I was so happy for her. The Athletes' Village and our apartment will be really good now."
The women's 4x100m freestyle relay team added to Great Britain's medal haul with a bronze on the opening day of swimming action in Baku.
