Team GB's Fran Halsall has booked her place in the women's 50m freestyle final at the Olympic Games this evening.
The 22-year-old was drawn into a tough semi-final heat with favourite Ranomi Kromowidjojo, but battled to a third-place finish behind the Dutch sensation and Aliaksandra Herasimenia of Belarus.
Kromowidjojo powered through as the fastest qualifier with a time of 24.07s. Halsall's time of 24.63s ensured passage as the fifth-fastest qualifier.
Fellow Team GB hopeful Amy Smith, who made the semis after winning a three-way swim-off, narrowly missed the last eight with her time of 24.87s.
