Allison Schmitt won the women's 200m freestyle in impressive fashion this evening, setting a new Olympic record.
Schmitt came home in 1:53.61, nearly two seconds ahead of her nearest challenger, Camille Muffat of France.
The American also beat off competition from Bronte Barrat of Australia who finished third, and fellow American Missy Franklin who was just outside the medals.
The 22-year-old, who trains with Michael Phelps, went off very quick from the start.
The field could not catch her as she opened a wide lead, just missing out on a new world record.
Team GB's Caitlin McClatchey finished in seventh place.
McClatchey told the BBC: "I am looking forward to the relay now, hopefully I can recharge my batteries and come back tomorrow."
