British duo Liam Tancock and Chris Walker-Hebborn failed to get on the podium after finishing outside the top three in the 100m backstroke final at the World Championships in Kazan today.
The duo, who were on the outside lanes, started strongly and remained in contention during the first 50m, but both fell away in the final 25m.
Australia's Mitch Larkin, who was the man to beat heading into the showdown, grabbed gold in 52.40s, while France's Camille Lacourt and Matt Grevers, who was the defending champion, took silver and bronze respectively.
Walker-Hebborn finished fifth, while Tancock completed the final in eighth place.
