Michael Phelps has dominated the men's 200m individual medley to win his 22nd gold medal at an Olympic Games.
The battle between Phelps and long-time teammate Ryan Lochte had been highly anticipated throughout Thursday but despite the pair being level at halfway alongside Brazil's Thiago Pereira, Phelps stole the show in the latter stages.
The three-time Olympic champion in this event stormed clear of the pack and as he approached the line, he was still creating greater distance between himself and his two nearest rivals, who were beginning to drop back towards the field.
Phelps touched the wall a massive 1.95 seconds ahead of Japan's Kosuke Hagino, while China's Wang Shun claimed the bronze.
Lochte eventually finished in fifth place with Pereira seventh, while Great Britain's Dan Wallace came home in eighth spot.
