Rui Braganca has revealed that he could have suffered a serious knee injury during his gold-medal triumph in the men's -58kg at the European Games.
The Portuguese edged to victory over Spain's Jesus Tortosa Cabrera, but the 23-year-old has admitted that the win could have come at a cost.
Braganca told reporters: "It was like I twisted the knee. It was very painful. But once you are on the mat, there is no other thing that matters than winning.
"You hear the voice of your coach and you see the opponent and that's it and you try not to feel the pain. The adrenaline is pumping around your body and you just forget about everything else.
"I just wanted to complete the match. But now, it hurts a lot. I'm afraid it could be a bad injury. It could be the meniscus."
Spain have so far won a total of nine medals at the Games.
