British number two Dan Evans pushed his Davis Cup concerns to one side to advance to the quarter-finals of the European Open with a straight-sets win over France's Constant Lestienne.
The 32-year-old recently told iNews that he has been left "insulted" after being snubbed for doubles matches at the Davis Cup and hinted that he would be prepared to quit the Great Britain team, who failed to make the knockout stage of the 2022 finals.
Evans was in no mood to let world number 69 Lestienne cause an upset in Antwerp, prevailing 6-2 6-1 in one hour and 14 minutes to advance to the last eight.
A ruthless Evans broke in the first and fifth game of the match and held to love to wrap up the opening set in just 41 minutes, although Lestienne missed three break point opportunities in the fourth game.
The Frenchman opened the second set with a hold, but Evans quickly came to the fore with a six-game winning streak, breaking his opponent's serve three more times to storm to a comfortable win.
With 17 winners on the day, Evans sealed a spot in the quarter-finals versus either second seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or Manuel Guinard, who will be in action on Thursday.
Jack Draper will be aiming to join his compatriot in the last eight when he meets Poland's Hubert Hurkacz - the number one seed - later this evening. body check tags ::
