Richard Gasquet has expressed his delight with his own performance despite losing to Juan Martin del Potro in their opening match of the London ATP World Tour Finals on Monday.
The Frenchman was beaten in three sets by the Argentine, having taken the first thanks to a tie break at The O2 in their Group B match.
"He's one of the best players I know," Gasquet told reporters. "I tried to fight as much as I could and I played well.
"It was a great match for me. I think I was really close to winning that match. It was a long match [and] very tiring for me. I think he was just a little bit better than me."
The clash was Gasquet's first match at the finals since 2007.
