Great Britain's Emma Raducanu saw her Australian Open campaign come to an end in the second round following a three-set defeat to Montenegro's Danka Kovinic.
The US Open champion went down 4-6 6-4 3-6 in a thrilling contest, managing to claw her way back into the match despite struggling with blisters on her racquet hand and taking a medical timeout.
Raducanu managed to save one of two match points in the final game thanks to her ever-powerful forehand, but Kovinic made no mistake with the second to march on to round three.
"I really enjoyed the whole match - it was a nice experience to face Emma here and reach my first Grand Slam third round after many years," Kovinic said during her on-court interview.
"It was just regular preparation for every match - she [Emma] is such a talent. I'm glad that I showed I can play at a high level. I was low on energy through the third set so I don't like to show many emotions if I'm winning or if I'm losing."
Raducanu exits the tournament after compatriot and fellow Grand Slam champion Andy Murray fell at the same hurdle, with Kovinic now preparing to meet either Simona Halep or Beatriz Haddad Maia in the third round. body check tags ::
