British number one Andy Murray concedes that the mental side of his game got the better of him during this Australian Open final defeat to Novak Djokovic.

Andy Murray has admitted that he let himself get distracted during this afternoon's Australian Open final defeat against Novak Djokovic.

The 27-year-old could not live with world number one Djokovic, who came out on top 7-6[5] 6-7[4] 6-3 6-0 at the Rod Laver Arena to claim his fifth title in Melbourne.

Murray denied that the defeat was down to any sort of physical fatigue following what has been a gruelling tournament and instead said that it was the mental side of his game which cost him at the last hurdle.

He told reporters: "I definitely got distracted in the third set, so that would be a mental thing, yeah."

The British number one added: "I got distracted in the third set. Definitely got distracted in the third set. Then the fourth set, I need to watch it again.

"I feel like at the end of the fourth set - he played fantastically well definitely after the first few games of the fourth set. He was going for everything and hitting the lines. There's not much you can do in that situation."

Murray has now tasted defeat on four separate occasions in the final of this Grand Slam.
