Andy Murray hoping to recapture Olympic form

Andy Murray discusses his game plan for his Australian Open semi-final meeting with Roger Federer.

Andy Murray has said that he wants to recapture his gold medal-winning form of the London 2012 Olympics when he takes on Roger Federer in the Australian Open semi-finals.

The British number one defeated the Swiss over three sets in London last August and is looking to raise his game and do the same over five in Melbourne.

"Playing over five sets is different to playing over three sets," The Mirror quotes the Scot as saying. "For him, I'm sure that at this stage of his career he wants to play his best tennis at the Slams.

"Maybe I've just not converted as many chances as I needed to against him in the Slams and that's where his experience has probably told. But I think the match at the Olympics was good for me mentally.

"To have played him over best-of-five sets and to have won quickly and convincingly was good for me to realise that once you get ahead of these guys you really need to stay on top of them - and that's the difference between winning and losing against the best players over five sets."

The US Open champion went on to say that he learned a lot from his Wimbledon defeat to Federer prior to the Olympics, the last time the duo met in a Grand Slam.

"I learned a lot from that match," he added. "Regardless of what I said at the time, there was pretty significant pressure on me on that day as well so it is very unlikely I will play another match in my career where I was under as much pressure as that I think.

"I was very emotional at the end but I felt like I handled the match well and I think I handled the situation pretty well and played some of my best tennis just a few weeks after that at the Olympics."

The winner of the match will face Novak Djokovic in the final after he defeated David Ferrer 6-2 6-2 6-1 in the last four.
