Kei Nishikori has revealed that he wants to model his game on David Ferrer and follow the Spaniard with a breakthrough into the upper echelon of Grand Slam tennis.

The Japanese player, who came through a marathon first set to beat Argentine Carlos Berlocq in their Australian Open clash earlier today, has insisted that despite his smaller frame he can generate enough to power to cause the best players problems.

He told reporters: "I'm trying to hit faster, I don't have big serve like, you know, other guys, so I have to I need more accuracy. That's more important than power I think.

"Of course I want more speed, but like you see David Ferrer, he's making a lot of first serves and more, you know, more control. So that's my goal to be more like him.

The 16th seed faces Russian youngster Evgeny Donskoy in the third round at Melbourne Park on Friday.
