Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has said that he must not show too much respect to Roger Federer in their quarter-final encounter at the Australian Open.
The pair will go head to head for a place in the last four in tomorrow's night match on Rod Laver Arena.
The Frenchman, who ousted the world number two at this stage of Wimbledon two years ago, revealed that he has a good relationship with Federer, but will be putting personal feelings aside when he steps out on court.
"I've got a lot of respect for him," said Tsonga. "He's just an incredible tennis player, an example for many people.
"I have respect for him outside of the court and, on the court, I have to - how you say - unrespect him? Because if you respect him too much, then for sure you lose.
"We have a good relationship in the locker room, but it's different on the court. On the court, I will try to beat him and I'm sure it's going to be the same thing for him."
Tsonga was a runner-up in Melbourne in 2008.
