Marin Cilic has defeated Bosnian-born Australian Marinko Matosevic in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the Australian Open.
The pair shared 33 unforced errors between them in the first set, although both men gave themselves three opportunities to break serve.
It was Cilic who made the only dent, winning 6-4 to take a one-set lead.
Matosevic was making life difficult for Cilic, but needless errors contributed largely to his downfall, while the Croatian found more winners coming off his racquet head.
It took 65 minutes of gruelling play, but Cilic eventually prevailed 7-5 to edge closer to the second round.
Cilic wrapped up the third set in quick time to set up a clash with the winner of Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Rajeev Ram.
