Rafael Nadal has crashed out of the Cincinnati Open courtesy of a straight-sets defeat to Borna Coric in the third round this evening.
The number three seed never looked like getting into the match as his Croatian opponent stormed to the surprise 6-1 6-3 victory in just over an hour.
Nadal, who went into the tournament having narrowly missed out on an Olympic bronze in Rio last week, made a solid enough start by winning his opening service game, but it was all downhill from there.
The Spaniard, who won the tournament in 2013, proceeded to lose the next six games as Coric took the opener in just 27 minutes.
The world number 49 extended his winning streak to 10 games by racing into a 4-0 lead in the second set, and despite Nadal rallying with a break of his own, he had left himself too much to do and Coric served out the match to progress.
