Great Britain name their five-man squad for the Davis Cup final against Belgium, with James Ward and Kyle Edmund set to battle it out for the second singles spot.

Leon Smith has named his five-man Great Britain squad for the Davis Cup final against Belgium later this month, with James Ward and Kyle Edmund set to battle it out for the second singles spot behind Andy Murray.

Murray, ranked second in the world, will lead the team as they bid to end a 79-year wait to win the competition in Ghent next weekend.

Dan Evans was Murray's number two in the semi-final win over Australia, but Ward and Edmund have moved ahead of him in the pecking order, while Murray's brother Jamie and Dominic Inglot are the doubles specialists.

"Andy has led from the front throughout this campaign, showing time and again what it means to him to pull on the GB jersey," Smith told the LTA's website. "He shows determination, commitment and passion that inspires the other British players on the bench and our fantastic fans in the stands.

"The team has had some incredible results this year, and we know that off the back of defeating the three other Grand Slam nations we carry great momentum going into the final. However, we will not underestimate the challenge in front of us.

"The Belgian team is full of top-100 talent and they will push us all the way."

Murray is playing on a hard court in the ATP World Tour Finals in London this week, but has prioritised the Davis Cup by spending most of his recent practice time training on clay.
