20.41: No real shocks then on the first Monday of Roland Garros. World number one Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer both progressed safely to the second round while Tomas Berdych showed his possible title credentials with a fine display. On the women's side of the draw, Victoria Azarenka survived an early scare to beat Alberta Brianti but Great Britain's Laura Robson had no such luck, as she crashed out following a straight sets defeat to clay-court specialist Anabel Medina Garrigues. Thanks for joining Sports Mole today! Be sure to join us tomorrow, when Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams are among the players to begin their campaigns.

20.38: So that concludes day two of the French Open, with two matches still to be finalised tomorrow. Tommy Haas will hope to complete a four-set win over Filippo Volandri, while Dolgopolov vs. Stakhovsky is well poised at two sets all.

20.35 It turns out I spoke too soon regarding the continuation of the all-Ukrainian clash. They have also decided to call it a day and resume their match tomorrow with deteriorating light again the reason behind the suspension.

20.33: Dolgopolov vs. Stakhovsky- PLAY SUSPENDED

20.31: Men's singles latest scores: Volandri 3-6 6-0 4-6 2-4 Haas (Play suspended), Dolgopolov 7-6[4] 4-6 6[4] 7 6-3 Stakhovsky

20.28: Number 16 seed Dolgopolov has taken that fourth set 6-3 to level at two each with Stakhovsky. These two seem to have better eye sight than Haas and Volandri as they appear set to reach a conclusion this evening. Here comes that score update...

20.26: After a brief discussion with the umpire, the two players have agreed to end play for the day due to bad light. Haas in particular was complaining about the conditions, although I'm sure he would liked to have wrapped this match up before tomorrow.

20.25: Volandri vs. Haas- PLAY SUSPENDED

20.24: Volandri, having nearly been out of the set moments ago, has pulled a break back out of nowhere. Thanks to a fortuitous net call I must say.

20.22: In the only other game still on court, Alexandr Dolgopolov is on the verge of levelling at two sets a piece with Ukrainian compatriot Sergiy Stakhovsky.

20.20: Volandri somehow holds this time around. He cruises into a 40-love advantage before Haas responds to take it to deuce. Two more break points follow for the German but Volandri withstands the comeback to get himself off the mark in the fourth.

20.14: RESULT: Stepanek 2-6 6-4 6-2 4-6 2-6 Goffin

20.10: Haas breaks again to take a 3-0 lead in the fourth set against Volandri. The German qualifier is gaining some real momentum after being rolled over in the second.

20.08: Thanks for that kind introduction Rob! I'll be with you until close of play, with two men's singles matches still to be decided. I'll have score updates for you shortly...

19.39: Xavier Malisse is serving to stay in the tournament at 3-6 6-7 4-5 against world number 141 Brian Baker.

19.35: Stepanek breaks to 30 in the opening game of the decider. I would say that puts him in control, but that would be foolish of me!

This time, it isn't. If it was 6-4 or 7-5, maybe. But 6-2 is a great disservice to Laura Robson. She didn't start well at all but played her way in, taking it to Medina Garrigues, attacking her second serve. If she is going to work her way back, that's the way she has got to go. All is not lost for Robson here."

10.26: Break from Brianti, the Italian breaks back to level it at 2-2 in the first.

10.25: Lopez is also struggling in the early stages against Serra - he trails 2-0 with the Frenchman on serve.

10.24: Much better from Brianti as she holds her serve to close the gap to 2-1. She really needed that.

10.23: Also not the greatest of starts from Robson, who is 2-0 down against Medina Garrigues.

10.22: Some start from Klizan in his match with Dancevic as he moves into an early 3-0 lead. Not the best start for Hewitt, either, who has had his serve broken in the opening game.

10.20: Really strong start to proceedings from Azarenka, who broke her Italian opponent in the opening match, before serving herself into a 2-0 lead.

9.58: Will we be in for any shocks today? I can't see it personally, but tennis is such a wonderfully unpredictable sport at times.

9.56: We are just five minutes away from the start of day two of the Open. It's another glorious morning in France.

9.54: If Djokovic claims the French Open title this year, he will become the first player since 1969 to win a fourth successive grand slam -some feat that! I am sure a certain Mr. Nadal will have something to say about that, however.
