Roger Federer admits that security has improved at the French Open following his on-court encounter with a fan.

Roger Federer has praised the improved security at the French Open following his on-court encounter with a fan.

Federer was left fuming with tournament officials on Sunday when a supporter raced onto the court to take a 'selfie' with the world number two after his first-round win over Alejandro Falla.

However, following his victory against Marcel Granollers in round two on Wednesday, the 33-year-old Swiss was quick to acknowledge that he felt safer during the match.

"I think everybody is a little bit more alert," he told reporters. "Tennis is one of the most accessible sports out there, and we are unbelievably close with our fans. That's what I love about it. For me, it was more important that everybody was doing their job, taking it very seriously... I think I felt that today."

Federer is due to take on world number 88 Damir Dzumhur for a place in the quarter-finals.
