Richard Gasquet recorded a 6-2 6-1 7-5 victory over Bernard Tomic to reach the second round of the French Open this afternoon.
The contest started evenly, but with the scores level at two games apiece, home favourite Gasquet won eight games in succession, which saw him claim the first set and take control of the second set.
Tomic appeared to be affected by a line call that he disagreed with as he lost the second set and while the third was more evenly contested, a break of serve for Gasquet to put him 6-5 in front proved decisive as he then served out to win the match.
The world number 11 will now take on Argentina's Carlos Berlocq for a place in the third round.
