Jamie Hampton has pulled off a major shock in the French Open by beating Petra Kvitova in straight sets.
The American cruised past her more illustrious opponent in the first set before seeing out a hard-fought second set to secure a 6-1 7-6(7) victory.
Hampton broke Kvitova in all of the world number seven's service games in the first set, while holding on to all but one of hers to secure a comfortable 6-1 victory in the opening set.
The second set was less straightforward as Kvitova broke Hampton in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead, but the world number 54 immediately responded with a break of her own.
The next two games also saw two breaks before they both held onto their serve to force a tie-break.
Hampton moved into a 6-4 lead only to lose the match point on her own serve as Kvitova looked to fight back from the brink of defeat.
She was merely delaying the inevitable, however, as Hampton secured the win with a 9-7 tie-break success to book her place in the fourth round.
