John Isner's French Open campaign has come to an end at the hands of Jeremy Chardy, following defeat in four sets against the home favourite.
The opener went the way of serve until the 10th game, when Chardy managed to break his world number 16 opponent to grab an early foothold.
Having lost serve in the opening game of the second set, the Frenchman was unable to build on his early lead as Isner found a way back into the contest.
It was Chardy who took the next two sets to claim victory, though, holding in the third to prevail before taking the fourth in a more straightforward manner to advance 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-3 in Paris.
David Goffin now awaits in the third round this weekend.
