Garbine Muguruza made it into the second round of the rain-affected French Open by overcoming Anna Schmiedlova in three sets on Monday.
The fourth seed struggled in the opening set as she went a break down and squandered three break points, allowing Schmiedlova to take the lead.
Muguruza battled to hold serve in the first game of the second set as she saved nine break points, and despite eventually losing serve twice, she broke her opponent three times to force through a deciding set.
It was then a more straightforward affair as Muguruza earned a swift double break before taking a 4-0 lead on the clay court.
Schmiedlova managed to break back, but it was not enough as the 22-year-old Spaniard snatched serve to book a place in the next round.
