Andy Murray drops a set, but his unbeaten clay-court season continues as he reaches the quarter-finals of the French Open by beating Jeremy Chardy in four sets.

Andy Murray's clay-court season remains unblemished after he overcame a second-set scare to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the French Open at the expense of Jeremy Chardy.

The two-time Grand Slam champion managed to come out on the winning end of a 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-2 result this afternoon.

The Scotsman came out of the blocks to go a break up immediately, but Chardy was able to respond with a break point of his own.

It wasn't enough to rattle Murray, though, as the former Wimbledon champion snatched serve once again to grab a comfortable one-set lead at Roland Garros.

Chardy's serve was tested at the start of the second set, and it took more than 15 minutes, but the Frenchman was able to save three break points and take the game.

The 28-year-old's stubbornness worked in his favour as he was able to strike in the fourth game to go a break up, which was all that he required to draw level on sets.

Chardy had momentum on his side as he broke Murray at the start of the third set, but the Scotsman instantly broke back and regained control by taking his opponent's serve at a crucial time before moving into a 2-1 lead.

The Frenchman had a big task on his hands heading into the fourth set, and Murray took full advantage as he romped to a double break, and despite dropping serve once, the former US Open champion broke again before successfully serving for the match.

Murray will take on David Ferrer in the final eight.
