Tsvetana Pironkova caused a shock at the French Open this afternoon by recording a 2-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Agnieszka Radwanska.
The match actually got underway on Sunday, but the persistent rain in Paris meant that it could not be concluded until today.
At one point, 102nd-ranked Pironkova found herself a set and 3-0 love down, only to then reel off 10 games in a row to take control of proceedings.
World number two Radwanska was unable to recover from that setback, meaning that it was 28-year-old Pironkova who sealed a spot in the quarter-finals against Samantha Stosur.
Consequently, Radwanska is now unable to leapfrog Serena Williams at the top of the world rankings.
