Stanislas Wawrinka cruised into the second round of the French Open with a comfortable 6-3 6-2 6-3 win over Marsel Ilhan this afternoon.
Having lost in the first round last year, the eighth seed claimed a break against the young Turkish player midway through the opening set to ensure that he wrapped up the first set of his Roland Garros campaign.
It was a similar story in the second set as the Swiss took his opponent's first service game, leaving Ilhan chasing the set, but he could not get the game back.
Wawrinka claimed a second break to take the set, before saving a sixth break point against his own serve at the start of the third.
Ilhan was unable to get another chance on his opponent's serve, leaving Wawrinka to comfortably hold his own games, before some aggressive returns allowed him to secure the match.
Wawrinka will face either Dusan Lajovic or Maximo Gonzalez in the next round.
