Defending champion Serena Williams has cruised into the second round of the French Open courtesy of a 6-2 6-0 victory over Magdalena Rybarikova.
The world number one took just 42 minutes to see off her Slovakian opponent, dropping only 22 points throughout the contest.
Williams broke in just the second game to move into control early on, but Rybarikova fought back with an immediate break of her own before holding to level things up.
From that point on it was all Williams, though, as the American reeled off 10 games in succession to make short work of the world number 76.
Rybarikova was struggling with injuries throughout the contest and couldn't cope with Williams's power as the three-time Roland Garros champion set up a second-round meeting with either Teliana Pereira or Kristyna Pliskova.
Williams's hopes of successfully defending the title were also given a boost by the withdrawal of Victoria Azarenka and shock exit of third seed Angelique Kerber in their first-round matches today.
