Maria Sharapova has reached the semi-finals of the French Open after she recorded a three-set victory over Garbine Muguruza.
Muguruza defeated Serena Williams earlier in the tournament, but despite taking a one-set lead, she was unable to deny Sharapova a fifth semi-final appearance at Roland Garros as the Russian prevailed 1-6 7-5 6-1.
The number seven seed looked in trouble during the opening stages as Muguruza broke serve three times on the way to taking the first set in just 27 minutes.
However, after the two players shared the opening 10 games of the second set, Sharapova struck to take the last-eight tie into a decider and it wasn't long before she was celebrating a hard-fought win.
Muguruza was beginning to tire, and the former world number one took full advantage to progress through to a semi-final clash with Eugenie Bouchard, who beat Carla Suarez-Navarro.
