Gilles Simon has booked his place in the second round of the French Open by beating fellow Frenchman Lucas Pouille in four sets.
World number 13 Simon was forced to come from behind as Pouille broke twice to take the opening set 6-3.
Simon defended three break points at the start of the second before going on to clinch it 6-1 in emphatic fashion.
It was a similar story in the third as the 12th seed turned the screw on his way to winning it 6-2 thanks to a couple of breaks.
Both players fought doggedly in the fourth, but it was Simon who found a decisive break late on before closing out the contest 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4.
