Eugenie Bouchard produced something of a shock in the Indian Wells Masters this evening as she eased to a 6-3 6-3 victory over Sara Errani in their third-round match.
Errani make a perfect start to the contest as she broke her opponent in the very first game, but Bouchard hit back straight away to restore parity at 1-1.
Bouchard then held her own serve before breaking Errani once again, taking a stranglehold over the opening set that she would not let go, serving it out to win 6-3.
The number 18 seed broke Errani yet again in the fifth game of the second set before repeating the feat in the Italian's next service game to move into a commanding 5-2 lead.
The ninth seed lived to fight another day by breaking back when receiving for the set, but it was only a temporary reprieve as Bouchard recorded a third consecutive break to win the second 6-3 and clinch an impressive straight-sets victory.
