Johanna Konta's stint at Indian Wells has ended at the fourth-round stage following a 7-6(2) 3-6 6-3 defeat at the hands of Karolina Pliskova.
Konta went into the clash knowing that a victory would enhance her chances of securing a spot in the top 20 of the world rankings.
However, she was unable to topple her opponent from the Czech Republic, who has won all of the meetings between the pair.
Australia-born Konta served for the first set at 6-5 in front, but she was broken and then lost the resultant tie-breaker.
The Brit reeled off five successive games in the second set to level up the match, yet she failed to build upon that momentum as 23-year-old Pliskova advanced through.
She will now face Russia's Daria Kasatkina for a place in the semi-finals.
