Ekaterina Makarova has secured a place in the third round at Indian Wells with an emphatic 6-4 6-0 win over fellow Russian Elena Vesnina this evening.
The eighth seed, who regularly plays doubles with Vesnina, edged in front in the first set, making the most of a couple of serving errors to get the break before serving it out in the next game.
The world number 66 faded in the second set, allowing Makarova to quickly get the first four games on the board.
Vesnina battled from the back of the court to try to get off the mark in the second set, but her efforts only resulted in more errors, allowing Makarova to wrap it up after just over an hour on court.
Makarova will face either Timea Bacsinszky or Marina Erakovic in the third round.
