Tommy Robredo has overcome Grigor Dimitrov with a 6-4 1-6 7-5 victory over the Bulgarian in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open.
Dimitrov started the match confidently, and it was Robredo who was forced into difficult positions frequently on serve in a gripping opener.
Robredo claimed a break of serve in the ninth game before serving out to take the lead, but the response from the 11th seed was emphatic.
Dimitrov started to find his rhythm on serve, and his Spanish opponent struggled to handle the longer rallies as two breaks of serve blew the match wide open.
A comfortable success in the second set was wrapped up by Dimitrov, but Robredo quickly regained his composure early in the decider.
It looked like the match would be decided by a tie-breaker after the first 11 games went with serve, but it was Dimitrov who slipped up as Robredo took full advantage of the first match point to secure his progress.
