Grigor Dimitrov has earned a place in the semi-finals of the Italian Open after Tommy Haas withdrew from their last-eight clash in Rome.
The number 12 seed had just won the opening set when Haas called for treatment on a shoulder injury, and after a brief discussion with the on-court doctor, it was decided that the German should end his involvement in the match.
It was a disappointing end for the 36-year-old, who had defeated Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka in the previous round, but he was always second best against the Bulgarian, who eased to the opener with two breaks of serves.
Dimitrov will now play either Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray in tomorrow's semi-finals.
