World number one Novak Djokovic has admitted that he considered pulling out of the Monte Carlo Masters following the death of his grandfather.
The Serbian was told of the passing just hours before his fifth-round victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov.
When asked if he thought about withdrawing, Djokovic told reporters after his quarter-final win over Robin Haase: "Yeah, I did, but I'm a professional and life goes on. I know that I cannot change anything now.
"Any time is the wrong time to receive that news. Today was a bit better, but still a lot of emotional ups and downs throughout the match. I got to the semi-finals, which is big result for me under the circumstances."
Djokovic will take on Tomas Berdych on Saturday for a place in the final.
