World number one Rafael Nadal admits that he needs to improve his performance.

Rafael Nadal has admitted that he is not happy with the way he is playing at the moment.

The world number one suffered a 7-6(1) 6-4 defeat to his Spanish compatriot David Ferrer in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters on Friday.

"When your opponent is doing things better than you, the normal thing is to lose," BBC Sport quotes the 27-year-old as saying.

"That's what happened today. I'm not happy with how I'm playing."

Nadal made 44 unforced errors in the match and also dropped his serve twice in the second set.
