British number two Aljaz Bedene faces a second-round match against Rafael Nadal at the Monte Carlo Masters after beating Lukas Rosol in his opener.
The 26-year-old, who is yet to win a career title, sealed a 6-2 6-3 triumph in the first round on Monday.
Bedene broke serve at the first time of asking in the opening set before breaking again and taking the lead after 27 minutes.
Rosol prevented the Brit from successfully serving for the match first time as he recovered from 5-0 down to get a game and a break point on the board.
However, Bedene, who is ranked 57th in the world, was able to see the game through and reach the next phase of the tournament.
