Roger Federer has eased into the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters thanks to a straight-sets win over Jeremy Chardy.
The second seed overwhelmed his opponent during a one-sided first set, blitzing into a 4-1 lead before seeing it out 6-2 with just 26 minutes on the clock.
Despite seeing an early break cancelled out in the second, Federer was not to be stopped in the second as he wrapped up the victory 6-2 6-1 in less than an hour.
The Swiss, who has never won the tournament, was beaten by fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka in last year's final.
Federer will face either 14th seed Gael Monfils or Alexandr Dolgopolov for a place in the quarter-finals.
